FARNHAM TN 1,
CB HOUNSLOW 2
FARNHAM slipped to a second successive Combined Counties Premier League defeat on Saturday, a resolute CB Hounslow taking all three points from the mid-table encounter.
Hit by an illness and injury crisis, Town manager Paul Tanner gave debuts to two players only signed on the morning of the game.
In truth, it could be argued that despite not being at their recent best, Farnham were the better side throughout and it was a shock to all present when Hounslow scored after 34 minutes. There was a touch of controversy about the goal as well as Farnham had strong appeals for a penalty waved away and while they still protesting, Hounslow broke down the left and the ball was crossed for Jordan Ireland to tap home.
Farnham were more fluent after the break and it was no surprise when they drew level. This time, the referee gave the penalty and Adam Horton stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way.
From this point on, the game was scrappy, with neither side seriously testing the keeper. Then, on 65 minutes, Jordan Ireland got free of the home defence and smashed home an unstoppable shot for his second goal.
Hounslow were content to sit on their lead and Farnham piled on the pressure in the closing stages. Despite some goalmouth scrambles, the were unable to get past a solid defence and the Londoners clung onto their slender lead.
