BADSHOT LEA 0, CAMBERLEY TOWN 2
DEAN Greenwood, appointed manager of Camberley for the rest of the season after the resignation of Dan Turkington, has inherited an in-form side. The Krooners beat Badshot Lea fairly comfortably on Monday to record a fourth consecutive Combined Counties League victory.
Badshot Lea had held likely champions Hartley Wintney to a 2-2 draw in their last outing, but struggled to contain Camberley who had put five goals past Farnham the same day.
The merry-go-round of Combined Counties League players sees Mark Corbett, formerly of Alton and, most recently, Farnham, now playing in Camberley colours.
The beach football international, who helped Farnham to a superb win over Camberley in last season’s Challenge Cup final, scored both goals against the Baggies and the three points hoists the Krooners from tenth to sixth in the Premier Division table.
Lee Allen saved well from Corbett and Luke Haskell hit the crossbar as Badshot Lea survived an early barrage.
But their resistance was broken after 18 minutes when Corbett slid the ball home from close range after some smart work by Adam Wareham.
Keeper Allen again proved his worthy, denying Marcus Cousins in a one-on-one, and the home side escaped into half-time with a one-goal deficit.
But Camberley needed only two minutes of the second half to double their lead as Corbett, sent clear through the middle, finished clinically.
Dan Jewell hit the post with a 25-yard free-kick before the Baggies produced a strong finish and at last put the opposing goal under pressure.
Badshot Lea visit Knaphill this Saturday. Camberley have a tough home match against fourth-placed Walton & Hersham.
* Dan Turkington, after leaving Camberley, has taken over as manager of Godalming Town where his near impossible task will be to save the team from relegation. Godalming are bottom of the Ryman League South Division, nine points adrift after a deduction.
