HOLDERS Cody D recorded an overwhelming 12-0 win over Crawley Ridge B in the first round of the Aldershot Table Tennis League’s Handicap Cup.

Bob Fenner, Dean Hewitt and John Asprey plundered the points.

Thankfully, the other ties were much closer. Frimley A and Bentley B finished 6-6 and Bentley prevailed by a single point on countback. Nigel Oh won all his singles for Frimley and Tim Ngyou claimed two. Gordon Traviss won two for Bentley, but the deciding factor was Bentley’s clean-sweep in the doubles.

Tennis D beat their A clubmates 7-5. The singles proved decisive, with Dave Jarvis unbeaten for the Ds and Dave Hewitt winning twice.

Broadmoor B also won 7-5, against Cody F. Again, the doubles were crucial, with Broadmoor winning all three. Norrie Short was unbeaten for Cody, while Mark Armstrong took two singles for Broadmoor.

Crawley Ridge A beat Tennis F, again by 7-5. Russell Gibbs won his three for Crawley Ridge. Ken Thompson chipped in with a double, as did Darren Brown for Tennis.

In the final Div 4 Cup first-round match, Ash H gained an unexpected 5-4 win over Cody E. Kim Phillips claimed a maximum for Cody, with Darren Milstead and Ben Carr each winning two for Ash.

Ash A proved too strong for Cody A in Division One, winning 8-2. Nick Mills and Dave Halfpenny both recorded maximums. Graham Diplock was unbeaten and Paul Massey picked up two as Tennis C beat Frimley A 6-4. Nigel Oh won two for Frimley.

In Division Two, Phil Hales and Robin Street were undefeated for Bentley B who trounced Tennis E 8-2. Ash C overcame Frimley B 7-3, thanks largely to the efforts of Alan Gess (3) and Nigel Tustin (2). Hudson Foley replied with two for Frimley.

Frimley C continued their promotion drive in Division Three with a 10-0 whitewash of Ash F. John Eade, Pete Good and Derek Seager were the dominant trio. Ash E were 8-2 winners over Cody D, thanks to trebles from Amy Parkes and Jo Bartlett.

Fleet B moved into second spot in Division?Four after a draw with Tennis J and a narrow 6-4 defeat to Broadmoor C. Rob Brook won five out of six for Fleet. Charles Burton and Dave Lewis both won twice for Tennis in the draw and Gabriel Ailioae was unbeaten for Broadmoor, supported by Ryan Baldry’s double.
