HASLEMERE Bowling Club are spicing up their competition programme for 2016 by introducing a ladies’ invitation pairs.

The event was originally going to be called ‘Grab-a-Man’, but this proved a bit strong for some members of the 102-year-old club.

One lady certainly made her mark last season when the recently arrived Linda Nye beat club president Robert Uffold to become Haslemere’s Champion of Champions.

Haslemere will again welcome new members at the PlayBowls4Fun Open Day next April. The club intends to take prospective players in hand and provide coaching.

Apart from Linda Nye, who has won East Sussex County competitions, the club signed up Freddie Willey, a PGL instructor and Level 1 county coach.

At a very helpful county coaching day, several Haslemere members were filmed on video and then advised on how to improve their bowling technique.

Haslemere again fielded two teams in the Three Counties Fellowship, with the Division 3 side achieving promotion.

Shirley Bicknell, Sheila Simons and Janet Rothwell won the Stedham Ladies Triples.
