CHAWTON Park were involved in yet another national competition, this time the first round of the Denny Cup knockout, with two rinks of four players playing at home and two away.
Chawton were up against Victory Indoor Bowling Club, based at Portsmouth. They are a strong side, although Chawton had beaten them on previous occasions
After five ends, Chawton were six shots down and Dave Sim’s rink were struggling to come to terms with the speed of the away carpet.
But by the tenth end, things had changed dramatically in Chawton’s favour. Sim’s men had moved ahead and the overall score was Chawton 39, Victory 28.
The pattern continued, with Chawton leading 63-47 at the 15th end, 77-57 at the 18th and finally 82-71 after an excellent game for both players and spectators.
