ASH A kick-started their season in the Aldershot Table Tennis League Division?One with an emphatic 9-1 victory against Tennis C.

Dave Phelps and Dave Halfpenny were both unbeaten and Dave Gilham took a double as Ash jumped to near mid-table.

Bentley A maintained their winning form with a 7-3 success over Tennis B. All the Bentley players, Micky Lang, Graham Diplock and Trevor Spraggs, won twice, as did Paul Shakespeare for Tennis.

Division Two is proving to be very tight, so a convincing 8-2 win for Tennis E over leaders Cody A might be significant at both ends of the table. Peter Killick led the way for Tennis with a maximum. George Carder and Graham McCulley both won twice in support, but neither could overcome Cody’s Keith Russell.

Cody B and Frimley B shared the points. Paul Mission returned a full house for Cody and there were doubles for Frimley’s David MacKinnon and Pete Good.

Frimley C and Tennis D also drew, with no player losing all three or finishing unbeaten. There were doubles for Frimley’s Hilary Greig and Vasco Correia, while Pu Zhang won twice for Tennis.

Robin Street and Paul Farrant both notched up maximums for Bentley B who defeated Ash C 6-4.

Tennis G were denied victory for the first time in Division Three when they were held by Frimley D. Brian Greenberg was unbeaten for Frimley and Martin Evans and Mehrdad Abutalebi took two each for Tennis.

A Ken Thompson treble helped Crawley Ridge A to a 7-3 win against Ash E. Corin Moore supported with two and Ash’s Terry French also won twice.

No player was unbeaten as Cody D beat their C team 6-4. John Harvey and Stuart Stone won two apiece for the Cs, as did John Sheehy and Nigel Roberts for the Ds.

Tennis F edged past Fleet B 6-4, thanks to a Charles Burton maximum. Andy Blunden and James Maxwell both won twice for Fleet.

Ash G recorded their first win in Division?Four, beating Cody F 8-2. Sheila Pretty led the way with a treble and Janet Guess and Ray Mears won two apiece, both losing to Cody’s Norrie Short.

Tennis J also got off the mark with a 6-4 victory against Fleet C. Alan Yeung secured a maximum for the losers, while Ken Lewington and Keith Johnson bagged braces for Tennis.

Crawley Ridge C cemented their place at the top of the table with a resounding 8-2 win over previously undefeated Braybrooke B. Yuiry Schulzhenko was the star of the evening with a hat-trick and there were doubles for Richard Hornby and Dave Marchant who both lost to Braybrooke’s Sandra Jackson.

The last Handicap Cup first-round match was played, resulting in a narrow 61/2-51/2 win for Frimley D against Fleet A. Brian Greenberg (Frimley) and Lawrence Dack (Fleet) were both undefeated and drew their encounter. Barry Baxter won twice to nudge Frimley over the winning line.
