Aldershot & Farnham Hockey Club’s ladies’ first team drew 2-2 at Folkestone in the South East Women’s Premier Division.

The visitors controlled the play early on and won a short corner for a bad tackle outside the D. Sophie Edwards made a strong run down the right, breaking to the baseline and lifting the ball across goal – but no-one was there to get on the end of it.

The Shots continued to attack, with Tammy Cherry passing the ball through the middle to Edwards who got a quick shot on goal. The goalie lay on the ball and the Folkestone defence reacted quickly to clear.

The Shots started the second half brightly and eventually took the lead when Phoebe Bryant’s slap from the top of the D took a deflection and beat the Folkestone keeper to put them 1-0 up.

Not long afterwards Edwards and Fiona Stewart combined well to get the Shots back into shooting range. The home goalkeeper made a save but Aldershot flooded the goal, with Hannah Wrench getting the crucial tap-in over the line to put the Shots 2-0 up.

Shots keeper Lucy Cochrane made a strong clearance to preserve the 2-0 lead, but the hosts kept on attacking. Folkestone won a series of short corners, and scored from the second short corner to make it 2-1.

Aldershot battled hard but their legs were tiring. The Shots built a strong attack down the right when Sophia Fielding made a baseline run, but she was just unable to connect with Cherry in the D.

Folkestone came straight back with a counter attack, and equalised with three minutes left. Aldershot couldn’t regain their lead and the game finished all square.
