ALRESFORD Young Farmers have presented a cheque for £1,000 to The Murray Parish Trust, their chosen charity of last year.

Set up by actors Sarah Parish and Jim Murray after their daughter Ella-Jayne passed away at eight months old following a traumatic premature birth at Southampton Hospital, the charity aims to raise money in her memory to help fund the expansion of the children’s unit at the hospital.

The Young Farmers spent 2017 raising funds at a variety of events including meals, Christmas carol singing and, the main event, a ‘muck lug’ where members delivered manure by the bag full, up to a trailer load, to residents in the Alresford area.

The money raised for The Murray Parish Trust will be matched by the government and go to providing new equipment for the paediatric intensive care unit at Southampton Hospital.

This year’s chosen charity is The Farm Community Network, a voluntary organisation and charity that supports farmers and families within the farming community through difficult times.
