NEW knitters are helping to keep premature babies warm and cosy, following last Tuesday’s drop-in session mounted by BLISS at Haslemere’s Haslewey Centre.
BLISS, the premature baby charity, supplies hand-knitted blankets, cardigans, bootees and hats to neonatal units all over the south of England.
The charity’s chairman, Dianne Bennett, was at this week’s awareness-raising event, where knitted items were on display and free patterns could be picked up.
The Haslemre resident said: “I was there with Farnham organiser Jan Dolman, to advise, and we were very pleased to welcome 16 new knitters.
“One volunteer was the granny of twins born 12 weeks early, weighing just 2lb each.”
Mrs Bennett added “Several other new recruits are mums of grown up prem babies, as I am.
“I have supported BLISS for many years, running the Charities Fair in Haslemere each November and co-ordinating the knitting scheme which now has over 230 members.”
The next BLISS drop-in will be in Farnham on February 20, from 10am to 11.30am in the Spire Cafe at the United Reformed Church.
On Tuesday, March 20, BLISS will be at the Denningberg Centre in Godalming.
