The wet weather failed to dampen the enthusiasm for this year’s Little Lumpy Sportive.

The volunteer-run charity sportive cycling event is now in its 14th year.

The heavens opened – providing a very challenging day out in the saddle for the riders who chose routes between 40 miles and 100 miles beginning and ending in Haslemere.

As is the tradition, community bakers provided an impressive array of cakes and treats at four feed stations across the route.

Cyclists enjoyed the prettiest parts of the Sussex and Hampshire Weald – including Milland, Buriton, Steep and East Meon – to the South Downs at South Harting where the Challenge and Epic routes branched off to take riders over some testing little climbs.

One rider, Tracey Mudd, praised the event’s organisers and said: “I just wanted to say a huge thank to the amazing Little Lumpy team for all their arrangements around the ride.

“The weather was horrid but their team were amazing in giving their time.

“The food and supply of coffee was phenomenal.

“They all were so happy, welcoming and encouraging to all of us when we needed it.

“The cakes, bread rolls and all the treats really helped to keep all of us going, despite being able to wring out our gloves, socks and shoes.”

The event organiser Ken Griffiths said: “Little Lumpy is a not-for-profit event, with the money raised being distributed between Haslemere Festival and an elected partner charity.

“This year, Little Lumpy chose A Place to Be youth club as its charity partner.

“The money raised will be spent on providing youth workers to work with the youth of Haslemere and the surrounding district during the school summer holidays.

“It has been a pleasure working with this organisation this year.”

This was the first year Little Lumpy has worked with WildTrack Photography.
