HEAVY showers put a dampener on the Haslemere SkateWaverley event due to be held on August 9, causing it to be called off.

But it was all systems go for the rescheduled session at Hasemere Leisure Centre skate park earlier this month.

More than 30 enthusiasts enjoyed the free event, held from 10am-4pm and organised by Waverley Borough Council, which offered skate, BMX and scooter fans the opportunity to be coached by pros, watch demonstrations and show off new tricks.

Elstead borough councillor Jenny Else, portfolio holder for health, wellbeing and culture, said: “It was so disappointing the weather wasn’t on our side for the original event, but as our skate events are such a big hit with the borough’s young people we decided we had to reschedule.”
