ROYAL Society of St George national chairman Joanna Cadman paid a special visit to the society’s first affiliate school, Camelsdale Junior School,

At the school assembly to commemorate the Battle of Waterloo, she presented a cheque for £1,000 from the society’s charity arm to support Camelsdale’s Timeline project, which will mark landmark historical moments in English history with plaques along the playing field perimeter path.

On June 18, 11 members of the Haslemere branch and six guests, including Christian Ashdown, Haslemere Town Crier and former member of The Blues and Royals cavalry regiment, enjoyed a lunch at the Station House on the anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo.

Chairman Martin Coakley said: “Christian gave a most informative talk about the battle, both as to its build-up and its consequences, the valour shown by his regimental predecessors and an insight into the life of a regimental soldier of the day. All of the usual toasts were given, even one to Mr Bonaparte for being such a gallant loser.”

The society’s next big event is the national lunch on Battle of Britain day in September, with the branch’s celebration of Trafalgar in November.
