EAST Hampshire District Council has issued a public notice asking for the public’s comments on proposed traffic regulation orders in Liphook.

EHDC has entered into an arrangement with Hampshire County Council to introduce a ‘prohibition of waiting’ on stretches of Canada Way, Court Close, Edmonton Way, Malthouse Meadows, Midhurst Road, Tower Road and Tunbridge Crescent.

The consultation is open for public comments until Friday, April 21.

In Midhurst Road, there will be no waiting at any time on both sides – from the junction of The Square, to the intersection with Court Close.

Residents claim dangerous and obstructive commuter parking close to the junction of Midhurst Road, creates poor visibility and access problems when entering Midhurst Service Road.

EHDC proposes no waiting at any time should be implemented at the two roads’ junction to improve visibility and manoeuvrability.

‘No waiting at any time’ is also proposed in Canada Way from the roundabout with Midhurst Road and 50m east – and from its junction with Edmonton Way south-westwards and north-eastwards for a distance of 15m – as well as on both sides side of Edmonton Way, between the junction with Canada Way, for 27m either side.

Existing restrictions in Canada Way are counterproductive because the lack of parked vehicles has increased traffic speeds in and out of the housing development, residents have reported. The current restrictions have also displaced the parking problem to more restrictive areas further into Canada Way.

The extent of the ‘no waiting’ restriction is being reduced to the Canada Way junctions with Midhurst Road and Edmonton Way. EHDC claims that will prevent dangerous and obstructive parking around the junctions, while encouraging a controlled amount of safer kerbside parking to act as a natural traffic calming measure.

‘Waiting prohibited at all times’ could apply to the north and south side of Court Close from its junction with Midhurst Road, as well as the either side of Malthouse Meadows from its junction with Haslemere Road northwards, as a result of dangerous and obstructive commuter parking close to the junction with Midhurst Service Road, which affects visibility and access when exiting Court Close.

‘No waiting at any time’ should be implemented at the junction to improve visibility and manoeuvrability for motorists, the council said.

Waiting will be prohibited at all times on the north side of Tower Road from its junction with Headley Road, and from its junction with London Road, if the order is approved.

Dangerous and obstructive parking close to the junction during school drop-off and pick-up times, has been reported as well as dangerous parking close to London Road. EHDC proposes ‘no waiting at any time’ should be implemented to improve visibility and manoeuvrability.

Problems have also been experienced during the school run in Tunbridge Crescent with ‘no waiting at any time’ restrictions set to follow from its junction with Headley Road,
