THE University of Winchester will provide the venue on Thursday, Feburary 1, for a public lecture on ‘Culture and Faith’ by internationally-renowned cultural theorist and literary scholar Terry Eagleton.
Professor in the department of English and creative writing at Lancaster University, Mr Eagleton will reflect on a range of topics of concern to those who envision a future in which just and compassionate communities thrive in culture and faith.
Terry Biddington, lecturer in practical theology and dean of spiritual life at the University of Winchester, said: “Professor Eagleton is one of the most creative and inspirational thinkers alive today. His rigorous critique of so many of our cultural and religious norms and assumptions has proven to be as invaluable as it is life-transforming.
“The University of Winchester is proud to be hosting this event.”
The talk, on Thursday, February 1, will be preceded by an optional meal and followed by a question-and-answer discussion.
The meal starts at 7.30pm and the lecture at 8pm. To book a free place, e-mail [email protected] or call 01962 854454.
