TALENTED young artists from Alton have been honoured with top prizes at a central London awards ceremony.

Held for the second year running on November 20, the Unique Art Awards ceremony championed some of Britain’s most talented disabled young artists.

Among them were students from Treloar College in Holybourne who suffer with physical disabilities such as cerebral palsy.

Taking gold in the youth photography category was 19-year-old Eion Searle, while Dan Giddings took bronze in the same category, and Marc Downes received a bronze award in youth digital.

The national competition opened for entries between January and June this year and welcomed more than 300 entries for inspirational artwork across five different artistic mediums – painting, photography, 3D sculpture, digital art, and music.

The competition is the brainchild of the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists (MFPA) Trust Fund for Training of Handicapped Children in the Arts.

Holybourne man Tom Yendell, chairman of the board of trustees for the MFPA Trust Fund and himself a mouth-and-foot painting artist, said: “The calibre of entries was superb and we are thrilled at how many we received this year.

“We hope that the winners enjoy putting their prizes of art vouchers to good use.”

He added: “The Unique Art Awards is such an exciting initiative to showcase some incredible artistic talent.

“We’re looking forward to returning for another round in 2018.”
