LUDSHOTT Photographic Club’s new autumn programme includes a range of talks, practical workshops and competitions.

During the first competition of the new season, the club was pleased to welcome Keith Newton, from Yateley Camera Club, as its external judge for the evening.

Seventy images were entered in three classes – for beginner, intermediate and advanced photographers – and, as usual, the judge awarded marks for each image with the best on the evening scoring 10.

In the beginner class, husband-and-wife Davida and Robert Cole shared the honours with Robert scoring a 10 for ‘Bridesmaids Behaving Badly’ and Davida matching him with ‘Follow my Leader’, which might be described as a wild goose chase.

There were three maximums in the intermediate class. Grant Dawkins scored a double top with ‘Madagascar Sunset’ and ‘Tawny Owl,’ the latter an unusual shot looking upwards as the owl looked down.

Ruth Greenfield returned to her winning ways with a butterfly portrait entitled ‘Lady-in-waiting – Common Blue’.

There was a large entry in the advanced class and the judge had a tough time in selecting the nine images for the top mark.

David Bird was one who gained a 10, not just for one but for two superb flower pictures entitled ‘Oriental Poppy’ and ‘Gerbera’.

Also finishing on a double top was Angus McKay with ‘Do I Know You’, depicting a red squirrel vs peacock stand-off, and ‘The Ayes Have It’, a picture of a black swan eyeing up the photographer.

John Gamble took a risk by entering his ‘Young Pied Wagtail’ as a monochrome image, but the judge liked it and awarded a maximum.

A change from nature subjects was provided by Brian Bond’s colourful interior of ‘Hascombe Church’ and Gordon Rae also achieved a maximum for ‘The Sumatra Railway 1944-45’, a poignant reminder of thousands of prisoners of war and Japanese, who lost their lives on what became known as the Pekanbaru Death Railway.

On a lighter note, John Wichall brought up the rear in the advanced class with maximum scores for his images ‘Temesvari Coaching Jaeger, Wimbledon Seniors 2015’ and a wildlife shot entitled ‘Drake Goosander’.

Ludshott Photographic Club, which draws its members from Liphook, Haslemere, Grayshott, Headley, Bordon, and surrounding areas, welcomes new members.
