WHEN Haslemere Fringe Festival's headline act Scouting For Girls take to the stage on Saturday night, they will know if their World Cup single ’England I Still Believe’ helped carry the day in the quarter-final against Sweden.
The acclaimed Indie band is just one of the "mane" attractions at the action-packed three-day festival on Lion Green, which kicks off tomorrow (July 6) at 6pm, with the headline act on the Lion’s Mane stage that night, alternatve rock duo REWS.
The remaining two members of iconic disco band The Real Thing, Chris Amoo and Dave Smith, take to the stage at 8.30pm on Sunday, as the grand finale.
So popular is this year’s festival, the tickets had nearly sold out at the official launch event in May, when it was also announced that Bobby Davro star of stage, screen - and BBC’s East Enders - will be special guest in the Comedy Club on Saturday.
The club in The Lion’s Roar stage, will be compered by local comedian and singer/songwriter Andy Stedman.
The main compere for the whole festival will be music promoter Iain Martin.
To commemorate the centenary of the end of World War I, the community festival’s partner charity is the Royal British Legion and memorial ceramic poppies crafted by Grayshott Pottery will be on sale, with £5 from each one sold given to the Royal British Legion.
Up-and-coming talents from Haslemere and surrounding towns and villages will have the chance to shine on all the main stages, ranging from Woking band Sour Kix to Haslemere Community Choir and Bohunt Big Band.
Dance enthusiasts can enjoy a performance by the internationally acclaimed Motionhouse of Lost on Sunday, and members of Haslemere Performing Arts and the town’s StreetNation Dance School will also be in action.
’Speech sainter’ Geoff Allnutt is just one of the acts in the performance poetry and litpop sessions and a host of local schools are competing in the inter-school poetry slam to win the Haslemere Fringe Festival Cup.
