AROUND 2,000 years ago the Romans built a road across what is now the Longmoor Ranges as part of a 40-mile route to march legions, and facilitate trade, between the important Roman towns of Chichester and Silchester.

Lorna Wallis set out to try to discover traces of this ancient feature, buried somewhere on the Ministry of Defence land.
