Heartstrings have been pulled as a festival in memory of teenage guitarist is coming to an East Hampshire village.
When 14-year-old Lincoln Hawkes died following a fatal collision in Lovedean last July, his bandmates did what they’ve always done – they turned to music.
And that ethos and his memory will live on as a festival “built on love and powered by music” will be held in Jubilee Park in Horndean on July 11.
Lincoln’s band, Into Pieces, were a tight-knit foursome who “lived for rehearsal sessions, big dreams and loud, messy, brilliant music”.
“At the wake they had this mini concert as they didn’t want it to be a sad occasion,” said Sean Burridge on the inspiration for Lincfest.
“It was clear his death shouldn’t be the end of something beautiful, but the beginning and so Lincfest was born.
“I’ve always wanted to run a music festival so I asked Horndean Parish Council if we could use Jubilee Park and they replied almost straight away saying “yes”.
“But even more good is going to come from it, because we decided we would split 100 per cent of the profit between Hampshire & IoW Air Ambulance and Horndean Parish Council, who can use the money on youth projects.”
The HTC student would have been impressed with the line-up with more than a dozen bands set to grace the Jubilee Park stage later this summer.
Into Pieces will be among them with Coast, the Damian Lodrick Band, Evading Solaris, Summoners, Nevaeh, The Guillotine Union Boys, Fabulous Fug Band and The Zed Man just some of the acts lined-up for the inaugural festival at the time of writing.
Lincfest will take place from midday to 10.30pm with tickets priced £15 for adults and £10 for under 16s, visit www.lincfest.co.uk for more details.
