YOUNG people had a chance to get behind the wheel and test their driving skills at the sixth Autotest event in Petersfield.

Run by East Hampshire District Council and Southsea Motor Club and held at Penns Place, the event was open to people aged over 14 and gave people who aren’t old enough to have a provisional licence the opportunity to test their precision driving skills around an intricate course under the supervision of professionals.

A dozen awards were up for grabs on the day, giving the young drivers and more experienced drivers the opportunity to compete in different classes for the chance to win.

John Geoghegan, the district council’s community officer and event organiser, said: “The Autotest events that we run here at the EHDC offices are always popular.

“There is something really exciting to young people about driving a car.

“We are glad we can give people this opportunity in a safe environment. It also gives the young people of East Hampshire something a bit different to do on a Sunday.”

Autotest events are run twice a year by East Hampshire District Council and Southsea Motor Club.

The next event is expected to take place in late July. Anyone interested in taking part should e-mail John Geoghegan at [email protected].
