A tea party and concert were held at Lion Green on Sunday as part of the town’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

There were plenty of stalls and amusements on the green for visitors to enjoy, and tea –with scones – was provided for 2,000 people who had booked in advance.

The concert featured music from every decade of the Queen’s reign – and the finale was a Queen tribute band.

As part of the celebrations on Sunday, a certificate was given to Martin Coakley in his capacity as trustee of the Commonwealth Resounds.

Through Martin’s links with the Royal Society of St George – he is treasurer of the Haslemere branch – an application was made to the society’s charitable trust, resulting in a £500 grant. The grant went towards the Commonwealth Resounds’ project to organise a competition for a song for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee beacons.

The winning song was A Life Lived With Grace. The £500 was used by the Pan African Choir of Uganda to produce a video filmed on the shores of Lake Victoria.
