PARENTS and grandparents can fill children’s days with fun during the summer holidays by bringing them to the Rural Areas Play Project (RAPP) or Get Activ8d play schemes, which run from July 31 to August 25.

The RAPP scheme includes arts, crafts and other fun activities for four to 11 year olds. Under fours can also attend most sessions for free and use the play equipment on offer.

This summer, the RAPP vans will be visiting towns and villages all over East Hampshire, including Lindford, Petersfield, Whitehill and Bordon, Medstead, Froyle, and East Meon.

RAPP activities will include magic shows, circus workshops, a play-in-a-day, meeting mini-beasts, making jewellery, and spending a day in the past at Butser Ancient Farm.

With Get Activ8d, seven to 14 year olds will be able to take part in sports activities in Alton, Petersfield, Blackmoor, and Whitehill & Bordon.

A new introduction for this year is foot golf at Petersfield Golf Club, which is like golf but using football skills to get the ball into the hole.

Online bookings will go live at 10am next Monday, July 17, through My East Hampshire District Council (EHDC) accounts.

New customers may want to set up an account in advance as there is often a rush for places when the summer programme goes live.

Julie Butler, EHDC’s portfolio holder for customer services, said: “Families living in rural areas can be quite isolated and struggle for things to take part in locally, that’s why the RAPP programme takes the fun out to them.

“With new activities and locations all over the district, there’s definitely something for everyone from RAPP and Get Activ8d this summer.”
