AN emergency call out to catch a stray dog closed Hindhead Tunnel in both directions for 30 minutes on Monday.
Surrey Police were sent to the southbound carriageway of the tunnel just before 3pm to help Highways agency staff catch a dog that had got loose on the main London to Portsmouth road - and forced traffic to a standstill in both directions.
A Surrey Police spokesman said: “Officers searched the location but the animal was not located. No one was injured during the incident and the tunnel was re-opened shortly after at 3.30pm.”
