PETER KAY, co-founder of the Sporting Chance Clinic - which treats professional sports people dealing with drink, drug, gambling and other behavioural problems - has died aged 52.

Peter set-up the Liphook-based centre in September 2000 with former Arsenal captain Tony Adams MBE, who dealt with alcoholism during his career.

The clinic is situated in the picturesque grounds of Champney's Forest Mere Health Resort and one of its most famous residents was football legend George Best.

In recent years, the clinic has treated a host of sport stars including Paul Gascoigne, Joey Barton, Paul Merson, Adrian Mutu, Matthew Etherington and Kelly Smith.

Peter stepped back from Sporting Chance 18 months ago to look after his own health, but has always continued to champion the work it does.
