MORE than 60 Beaver Scouts from Alton, Bentley, Blackmoor and Whitehill, Four Marks and Ropley gathered for thisyear’s Rotherfield District It’s a Knockout competition.

Otherwise known as the Beaver Highland Games, the event took place at Amery Hill School on September 23.

The young competitors were welcomed by assistant district commissioner Malcolm Vincent, who stressed that the aim of the exercise was for the Beavers to "have fun and to to do their best”.

Winning, he said, would be just the “icing on the cake”.

Each of the nine teams took part in six events – Bridge that Gap, Quoit Sprint, Pass the Ball, Box Build, Boat Race and an Obstacle Race, all against the clock with penalty points added for errors and designed to test co-ordination, team work, speed and agility.

Rotherfield Scout’s active support unit organised the event.

In a close-fought competition, The Rotherfield District Scout Beaver Activity Team Cup was won by the 3rd Alton B team, with 3rd Alton A in second place, ahead of 1st Blackmoor and Whitehill, who came third.

Mr Vincent expressed thanks, on behalf of Rotherfield District, to Rotherfield Scouts’ active support unit, and to the individual group Beaver leaders and parents for giving their time and support to the event, with special thanks to the Beavers who “entered into the spirit of the games with enthusiasm, ensuring the competition was a success”.
