AFTER 11 years at the helm of Business South, chief executive Sally Thompson left the organisation at the end of March.

Under her expert direction, Business South has evolved into a leading business organisation with more than 250 Business South champions across Hampshire, Dorset, the Isle of Wight, Surrey and Sussex, a programme which is now celebrating its 10th year.

Sally has become a familiar face among the South’s business community, known personally by countless businesses, public sector figures, and education providers.

In her role at Business South, she has worked tirelessly to unite these stakeholders and to deliver campaigns that have had huge benefit to the region that she loves.

“In the 10th year of our highly-successful champion programme, I feel I have reached a significant milestone at Business South and it is time for me to embrace new opportunities and challenges,” said Sally.

“Personally, I have so many moments that I am proud of over the last decade and throughout my Business South journey. We have established an independent organisation which listens to business needs and drives forward programmes in direct response to these.”

Sally (pictured) leaves a legacy of tremendous accomplishment during her time at Business South. Beyond establishing and growing the Champion programme, she has been fundamental in driving forward the Southampton Masterplan, developed initiatives which support local supply chains, undertaken a variety of sector support projects, connected the region’s businesses with MPs, and recruited and developed hard-working, committed staff.

John Mitchell, chief executive of partner organisation Enterprise First, will continue to lead Business South and become group chief executive of both organisations.

“I have worked closely with Sally since Business South joined the Enterprise First group,” said John. “I have been impressed with her vision and enthusiasm in positioning Business South as the premier voice of business, and its close engagement with Champions, supporting the economic growth of the region.”
