A decade after villagers fought to save it, The Royal Exchange is not just surviving — it’s thriving, and the whole of Lindford came out to celebrate.

What began as a determined local effort to protect the village’s last pub — thanks to the ‘Save Our Pub’ campaign back in 2011 — has become a shining example of what a community can achieve when it pulls together.

To mark the milestone, the pub held an anniversary party, and general manager Amy Pieri, alongside Chloe King and Aaron Morris, thanked customers for a decade of loyalty: “Our goal was simple — to create more than just a pub. We wanted a warm, welcoming community space where everyone feels at home. Ten years later, that vision is a reality, and it’s all thanks to our amazing community.

“To our wonderful customers, thank you for filling this place with laughter, stories and support through every high and low.”

The big birthday celebration featured all the classics — live music, great food — and among the guests was Cllr Andy Tree.

He said: “I remember the public meetings when people feared the pub could become flats. It was a real possibility. Fast forward to now and it’s thriving — a fantastic community pub and restaurant that I enjoy visiting regularly. Huge thanks to Amy, Chloe, Aaron and the whole team for keeping it going in such challenging times for hospitality.”

MP Greg Stafford added: “It was a wonderful evening celebrating the 10th anniversary of The Royal Exchange — a true heart of the village. Well done to Amy, Chloe and Aaron for all their hard work. And thank you to Lindford Parish Council, Woolmer Forest Lions Club and Deadwater Valley Trust for their ongoing support.”

Despite tough conditions for pubs nationwide, The Royal Exchange has beaten the odds and continues to thrive — proof, once again, that it really does take a village.
