A PROMINENT tree in Liphook Square is being felled today after a large overhanging branch dropped on to the road.
Hampshire County Council is closing off the road until 3pm so workmen can fell the large horse chestnut tree outside The Royal Anchor pub. Part of Portsmouth Road between its junction with Haslemere Road, Longmoor Road and Headley Road will be closed, while work is carried out.
Bramshott and Liphook Parish Council together with Greene King Brewery, landlords of The Anchor, were concerned about the safety to the the public, with the Carnival being held this weekend. East Hampshire District Council arboricultural officers agreed the tree was in a potentially dangerous state and an inspection found the tree was infected with a fungus.
