A CONTROVERSIAL planning application in a small residential close has been refused by East Hampshire District Council.

The proposal was for a two-bedroom house with two parking spaces at the front at 30 Hazelbank Close in Liphook. It would have been added to an existing three-bed semi, which has a garage and parking space for two cars at the rear.

Neighbours as well as Bramshott and Liphook Parish Council strongly objected stating it would result in a restricted and cramped development and generate additional traffic with a lack of adequate parking.

Objectors were concerned the close, off Haslemere Road, was already at capacity for parking and extra cars would be forced to park on the street and cause haphazard parking issues for residents as well as emergency vehicles.

In addition it was felt the proposal would have a harmful effect on the character of the area and be intrusive to the street.
