A RECRUITMENT event aimed at a career caring for and supporting the early development of children under five will be held in Winchester next month.

Run by Hampshire County Council in association with Job Centre Plus, the event will showcase the range of opportunities available and will also be a chance for people to find out about childcare apprenticeships, or how to become a self-employed childminder.

There will also be an opportunity for people already working in nurseries and pre-schools, as well as before and after-school and school holiday clubs, to find out about continuous professional development opportunities.

It will be held at the county council’s headquarters in Winchester on June 23, from 10am-3pm.

Keith Mans, the county council’s executive lead member for children’s services, said: “As more parents reap the benefits of the Government’s free 30 hours of early childcare, more opportunities are opening up for childcare careers in nurseries, pre-schools, before and after-school clubs, and school holiday clubs.

“This event is the perfect opportunity for anyone who is considering a career in this specialist area and keen to find out more, as well as those already working in the field, to gather information, ask questions and even apply for current vacancies.”

The event will cover topics such as CV writing and interview techniques, feature a live jobs board on which early years and childcare providers can advertise their current vacancies.

Visitors can also talk to pre-school and nursery managers and staff, county council early years education specialists, and representatives from Southampton Area Men In Early Years, Job Centre Plus, for advice about Universal Credit, working credits and other benefits; National Careers Service; Colleges and Universities offering childcare courses; and Hampshire Futures – for information and advice about Apprenticeships.
