SCORCHING temperatures and signalling problems turned the evening rush-hour into a standstill for hundreds of rail commuters on Monday.
South West Trains were forced to cancel dozens of services from London Waterloo after the heat caused some of the track to buckle.
The defect outside Waterloo took place at the height of rush hour and led to a flurry of emergency engineering work.
Four platforms were shut during the while dozens of usually super-busy services from Waterloo to Woking were cancelled at short notice.
Many rail commuters were forced to use taxis, buses and the underground to get to outlying stations around the capital.
