CARNIVAL quiz night was a resounding success, raising in excess of £2,000 for Liphook biggest annual event.

The evening kicked off with a blind wine tasting competition organised by The General Wine Company.

Managing director Alan Snudden and wine manager Tim Mellor ran a fun competition to test the knowledge of different grape varieties and wine identification with the winning table receiving a large bottle of Claret, courtesy of The General Wine Co.

The quiz, was expertly executed by Rob Miller with help from Suzanna Miller and Steve Baker.

Out of 19 tables, the winning team were the Bird Brains, which included Linda Costello, from Peep Inside, who won the wine hamper, donated by The General Wine Co. 

A silent auction for a BMW track day or hiring a BMW convertible for the weekend, donated by Barons at Hindhead, saw the highest bid come from Chris Poke.

A night’s stay with dinner and breakfast for two at Old Thorns hotel was won by Alex Landsberger and a limited edition print by Cari Bateman, a local artist, went to Sally Cameron.

Carnival chairman Karen Feeney told The Herald: “I would like to say a huge thank-you to all our sponsors of the quiz night hich included Barons BMW, Old Thorns Country Hotel, Taylor Wimpey, The General Wine Company, MiCare, Kaighin & Daughter, Liphook Fish & Chips and the L&S Gift and Coffee House.

“I would also like to thank all the businesses who donated the wonderful raffle prizes, the carnival fundraising committee, especially Sally Cameron, from Beauty Pod, who all did a brilliant job in organising the event at the Church Centre, in Portsmouth Road, this year, as well as everyone who came along to lend their support.

“This has been the best quiz night ever in raising much needed money to put on the annual Liphook Carnival.”

lThe 2017 carnival is due to take place on Saturday, October 28, the night the clocks go back with preparations well under way.
