THIS year’s River Wey Trust Pimm’s party, held at The Old Farmhouse in Standford, the home of Stephen and Cathy Whitaker, raised more than £1,000.
More than 112 guests enjoyed a variety of picnic lunches, accompanied by plenty of Pimm’s and followed by strawberries and cream, while being entertained by foot-tapping tunes from Grandpa Spells Jazz Band.
Following the picnics, a duck race was held on the River Wey, which runs through the grounds of The Old Farmhouse.
The winning duck to float over the finishing line had been chosen by Peggy Greaves, who was presented with a bottle of Champagne.
Bob Wilson, a trustee and one of the organising committee, thanked everyone for their support and urged guests to become members of The River Wey Trust.
Angela Glass, chairman of the Trust, explained how important the support for the group was, especially at the annual Pimm’s party, the main fundraising event of the year.
Supporting the summer party enabled the valuable work of the Trust to continue, said Mrs Glass, who is also a member of the Trust and a district councillor.
She also thanked the hosts for allowing the event to be held in their grounds and presented them with gifts from the trustees.
