TIM Wickes and his team of 10 charity box collectors have raised the milestone figure of £10,000 for the Prostate Project in just four years.

Herald readers may recognise the boxes, which are placed in a variety of locations, including pubs, shops, garages, surgeries and offices, mostly in the Bordon, Headley, Liphook, Petersfield, Liss, Grayshott and Haslemere areas.

“The £10,000 achievement is all down to a combination of the dedication of our team, the willingness of the people who allow the boxes on their premises and the generosity of the public in general,” Mr Wickes added.

“There is one common thread and that is the belief in the work of the Prostate Project charity.

“Convincing people to take our boxes is so much easier when they learn what a great job the Prostate Project has done towards defeating this killer cancer over the past 18 years.

“With so many high-profile charities spending 20 per cent and more of their donated income on administration costs, it is refreshing to hear of a successful one that is still volunteer led with administration costs below four per cent.”

The money raised is helping to fund vital research at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, in Guildford, into prostate-cancer diagnosis and treatment.

More box placers and collectors are sought to join the team and to help expand geographical coverage in Farnham, Aldershot, Camberley, Midhurst, Petworth, Guildford and Godalming.
