BRAMSHOTT and Liphook’s Poppy Appeal in 2017 has so far raised £12,683.65 for the Royal British Legion.
The collection, which was co-ordinated by Lt Col (Ret) James Jack and his wife Ann, includes £243.25 raised with the help of Rufus, the resident cat at Old Thorns Country Hotel.
It is expected to increase with more donations from the Carnival committee and forthcoming Canada Day celebrations.
Col John Boyd OBE, who has taken over as chair of the RBL Liphook sub-branch, told The Herald: “This year is a significant milestone - marking the 100th anniversary of the cessation of WW1 hostilities.
“It provides a one off opportunity to formally acknowledge and record the 35 members of the parish, across both World Wars, who currently don’t have their names recorded on the War Memorial at St Mary’s Church in Bramshott.
“This will be achieved with the production of a high quality wooden presentation stand, and leather-bound book of remembrance for all those Liphook and Bramshott parishioners who died in the service of their country.
“To that end, the RBL Liphook sub-branch would like to invite members of the public to attend a fundraising skittles night at the Bramshott and Liphook Social Club in Headley Road on Friday, January 19, starting at 7pm.
“All monies raised will be donated to Bramshott War Memorial Trust with the intention of having the wooden presentation stand and leather-bound book of remembrance, fund raised and delivered in time for dedication on November 11, at this year’s Remembrance Service.”
Tickets are £10 each, can be purchased from Liphook Travel, Headley Road and include skittles and a fish and chip supper. There will also be a raffle with some fantastic prizes during the evening.
