POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man from Alresford was hurt in a suspected assault in Alton in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Officers were called to the scene at 12.30am following reports of an assault on a 22-year-old man on Alton High Street.

The Alresford man suffered an eye injury and was taken to Southampton General Hospital but was discharged the same day.

The pavement between The White Horse pub and Mann’s Chinese takeaway on Butts Road was cordoned off as police forensics officers scoured the area for evidence.

Eyewitnesses describe seeing a “noisy fracas” between a small group of men and women which ended in fighting on the ground.
