POLICE are probing what they think was a failed distraction con in Bramshott. Two men told an elderly woman that they were plumbers who were working at another address on Church Road. They told the pensioner her house could be at risk of flooding and convinced her to let them inside. While one man distracted the 73-year-old woman by talking about the taps and toilet flush, the other man said he was going upstairs to turn the water off. She then went outside with the first man to see if the drains were working, while the second man stayed upstairs. Although nothing was stolen, police are appealing for anyone who may have seen the two men in the Bramshott area knocking on doors and introducing themselves as plumbers or staff from the water board. The incident happened around 4pm on August 31, but details have only just been released to the public. For full story, see this week's Liphook Herald.
