POLICE were called to Alton College early last Friday morning after thieves attempted to steal a safe.

The break-in is believed to have happened sometime between 5am and 5.30am and, although nothing appears to have been taken, investigations are ongoing with the help of CCTV footage.

Sara Russell, Alton College’s senior vice-principal for curriculum, quality and student services, said: “I’d like to thank all our students and their families for their valued cooperation last Friday when we were advised to close the college at short notice by Hampshire Police.

“I’d also like to take the opportunity to thank our experienced and dedicated staff for their quick responses and amazing efforts on Friday morning. The college was open as usual on Monday.”
