ANOTHER topical Peeps item this week, thanks to Paul Rollinson’s extensive postcard collection.

An online petition was recently launched at 38degrees.org.uk, calling for the revival of the Bordon Light Railway, and has mustered around 800 signatures to date.

It seems timely, therefore, to share these three postcards from Paul’s collection, recalling Bordon’s rail link to the outside world. Unfortunately none of them is dated.

The image of Station Road is considerably different to the view today but I suspect the building on the right is the camp school which today has become the Phoenix Theatre & Arts Centre. Note also the unusual double-legged telegraph poles.

Where was Station Hill though? I suspect the photographer is standing on the Oakhanger Road close to the end of Hogmoor Road where the Longmoor military railway crossed the road to access its own platform at Bordon Station.

I’m sure some of our readers will soon be able to tell us a little more about the locomotive in the view.

The view of the station itself (above left) is, I think, much later.

I think we are looking down what is now called Old Station Way with the British Railways station building on the left and the goods shed beyond.

The Longmoor military railway platform and lines would be hidden away behind the bank on the right.
