A CONTROVERSIAL planning application for six houses at Orange Lodge has sparked strong objections from Bramshott and Liphook Parish Council’s planning committee.

Councillors stated that the application clearly contravened H9 policies, as the site adjacent to the Berg Estate lies within an area of special housing character.

Abava Developments proposed to demolish the existing house on Midhurst Road and replace it with six large family houses.

The developer said the proposed scheme provided the opportunity to redevelop an area of brownfield land to provide a range of new predominately family homes, compliant with local space standards and the proposals were designed to sensitively respond to the surrounding area and neighbouring properties.

East Hampshire District Council’s principal planning officer, Jon Holmes, also raised concerns regarding the proposed infill development, stating that the layout and density of the development is, in his view, out of keeping with the area.

Taking into consideration the H9 policy for the area, he further advised for the application to be withdrawn and concluded he could not see how the revised plans could overcome the principle issue.
