Citizens Advice East Hampshire held a cost-of-living crisis event for the district’s support organisations at the Alton Maltings Centre last Friday.

It highlighted the challenges residents are facing and how they can get help from the government and elsewhere to manage their finances over the winter and beyond.

East Hampshire MP Damian Hinds and Citizens Advice national policy director Morgan Wild gave their perspectives and responded to some lively questioning the day after the November budget was announced.

Citizens Advice East Hampshire chief executive Helen Drake spoke of the rising level of demand for its services, particularly requests for support with food, energy and essential items, and also outlined the wider help it can offer.

She said: “We know many local people are struggling with the cost of living and how they can pay for essential items such as food and energy.

“If that is you, regardless of whether you are working, have debts or are on benefits, you are not alone.

“Many people are in the same situation this winter and our trained and experienced volunteers can help you make sure you have received everything you are entitled to, will provide confidential and impartial advice and support, and will help you access additional help if available.

“Please do contact us for support on our local number 0808 278 7901, via our online form at www.citizens advice.org.uk/local/east-hamp shire or pop into one of our offices in Bordon, Alton or Petersfield.”
