THE MET Office has issued a yellow weather warning with strong winds and heavy rain showers forecast in Hampshire.

Gusts of up to 50mph could sweep across inland areas between 1am and midday Tuesday, with winds as high as 65mph possible around some coastal areas of southern England.

Forecasters warn delays to train, bus, air and ferry services are "likely" as a result.

And warnings have also been made for possible temporary damage to outdoor structures.

Motorists are urged to look out for debris on the roads, while delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges are "likely".

A Met Office spokesman said: "An area of low pressure is expected to track across the far south and southeast of the UK from the southwest on Tuesday morning.

"To the south and east of the low centre some unseasonably strong winds are expected, particularly around some coasts and hills.

"Here gusts may reach 40-50 mph which may lead to damage to temporary structures and transport disruption.

"The strong winds will be accompanied by some heavy showers or rain for a time, before gradually moving northeastwards and easing from the southwest through Tuesday daytime."
