AN impressive £14,075 was raised by former Haslemere Mayor Malcolm Carter for his three nominated charities between May 2017 and May 2018
The good causes were Canine Partners; 3 Counties Money Advice and The Haslemere Penny Ha’penny Trust - .
Mr Carter said: “I am most grateful to those of you who donated money at various events, and to my three charities for all their support during my mayoral year.
“I chose the charities because they were either Haslemere-based or nearby and their aims are very close to my heart.”
The town’s Penny Ha’penny Trust received £5,875 which also included a generous donation from Haslemere Hogs.
The community trust makes grants to local voluntary organisations.
Assistance dog charity Canine Partners, received £5,700, which included proceeds from ‘An evening with Canine Partners’ at Haslemere Museum.
The dogs are taught a range of everyday tasks including picking up and retrieving items, opening doors and undressing a person. They can even help to load and unload a washing machine and they can fetch help in an emergency.
As a further incentive to mayor’s fundraising, the charity agreed that the town could name a ‘Haslemere community puppy’ if the amount exceeded £5,000 and Mr Carter confirmed the town will get to choose the best name.
The charity 3 Counties Money Advice which received £2,500, works out of Haslewey Community Centre every Tuesday helping those needing advice on benefits and debt.
