A BLAZE in an industrial yard in Station Approach, near Witley railway station, injured a 43-year-old man and damaged four vehicles parked nearby.

Stock at Rupipe Drain and Duct Supplies ignited due to an “out of control” bonfire.

But the firm reopened as normal the day after the blaze broke out at 2.42pm, on January 17.

A Surrey County Council spokesman said: “Four cars were on fire and one man, aged 43, was treated for severe burns to his left hand.”

Fire crews from Haslemere, Godalming and Guildford needed breathing apparatus to work in the thick black smoke caused when large quantities of plastic caught alight. Firefighters remained at the scene until 6.30pm.
