THE Monster Raving Loony Party took over The Jolly Sailor pub in West Street, Farnham, last Thursday to launch its 12th ale in two years inspired by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson.
Landlords Sarah-Jane Commarford and Ian Morgan hosted a unique and memorable night of fun and entertainment to celebrate the new beer, ‘Blonde Ambition’, a rebranded version of Ascot Ales’ golden ale Aureole.
Chris Gill, owner and head brewer of Ascot Ales in Camberley, was in attendance along with Alan ‘Howling Laud’ Hope, leader of the Monster Raving Loony Party and a resident of nearby Fleet.
Derrill Carr, a member of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) which helped organise the event, said: “The Jolly Sailor is the current CAMRA Surrey and Hants Borders Pub of the Year and is rated by CAMRA in the top four pubs in the whole of Surrey so we were delighted to be able to have the final launch of a Monster Raving Loony Party ale at The Jolly Sailor.
“It has been quite a journey for the Monster Raving Loony Party’s range of ales. It all began in September 2013 with the launch of Winning Co-ALE-ition at an event in The Prince Arthur in Fleet attended by more than 300 people.
“Two years later we have successfully launched Blonde Ambition, the 12th and what will be the final Monster Raving Loony Party ale.
“Eight different micro breweries based in Hampshire, Surrey, Berkshire, West Sussex and Somerset have been involved and in total over 100,000 pints of Monster Raving Loony Party ale has been drunk in more than 600 different pubs.”
Derrill added ‘Blonde Ambition’ proved very popular on the launch night and, at 10pm the party moved on to the Farnham Tandoori where they had a great meal and were well looked after by proprietor Abdul Haque and his team.
The Co-ALE-ition brand of ales ceased to be available from the end of May 2015, but it was also announced last Thursday that ‘Blonde Ambition’ will soon be available at The Strangers’ Bar in the Houses of Parliament from early 2016.
