A MEMORIAL service is to be held in central London next week in honour of Bletchley Park codebreaker Captain Jerry Roberts MBE, who died in March aged 93. Hundreds of people are expected to attend the service for the former Liphook resident at St Martin-in-the-Fields in Trafalgar Square at 11am on Wednesday, June 4. The Second World War hero, who helped bring forward the Allied victory by cracking German codes, was in his 80s when the vital work he had done behind the scenes was declassified and he was finally able to speak openly about it. He spent his remaining years tirelessly campaigning for proper recognition for the heroic but unheralded Bletchley Park codebreakers, who pre-deceased him.
