HAMPSHIRE residents will go to the polls on Thursday, May 4 to elect their county council representatives for the next four years.
*TREVOR MARONEY - LIB DEMS
I am married, live in Liphook, have been a parish councillor and chair the Parish Plan (www.liphookplan.co.uk).
I am a retired army officer, civil engineer and accountant with experience in construction, security, education, charities and local government, essential attributes for a county councillor.
Imposed housing without improving infrastructure is making our communities unsustainable. This needs to change!
Conservative cuts are hurting those on low incomes. We need more investment in nurseries, education, public transport and social care. Things I intend to fight for if elected.
Last year I increased our vote considerably. We can win this time.
*FLOSS MITCHELL - CONSERVATIVE AND UNIONIST PARTY
As a lawyer I have spent all my working life solving problems and finding just and fair outcomes for people. I love being in a position to do that for my local community.
Since my election last May I have been listening and responding to residents’ concerns. Many residents are worried about traffic congestion and speed. I have worked hard to chip away at their individual concerns whilst pushing on the bigger picture projects.
After only a year in the role, much of this is work in progress – I hope we get the chance to continue what we have started.
*JOHN TOUGH - LABOUR
As a Labour County Councillor I would aim to ensure the County Council fulfils its role in ensuring residents are able to live happy, secure and rewarding lives by providing a high level of support, care and services.
Labour believes we must invest in our children’s future and in public services. We must support our health service with increased levels of social care.
I would also pursue my particular concerns to reduce traffic in the centre of Liphook, to make Liphook Station fully accessible and to press the County to restore its Youth Service and its support for Youth Work.
*EDDIE TROTTER - JUSTICE & ANTI-CORRUPTION PARTY
I am a Liphook Parish Councillor and have lived since 1989 on the Bohunt Estate, close to my aunt, Lady Holman. Just before she died I promised that I would do all I could to preserve the Estate for the enjoyment of the people of Liphook.
The Bohunt and Foley Estates are now in the National Park. The JAC Party (www.jacparty.org.uk) is committed to a transparent and accountable process ensuring that any new roads or housing developments in the Division comply with the interests of the community, instead of anonymous property developers often based in tax havens.
