ALTON Town Council’s programme of summer entertainment in the Public Gardens will begin on Sunday with An Afternoon of Music courtesy of the Liss Concert Band.

Band spokesman Roger Lewis said: “Liss Band are delighted to be playing for the community of Alton for a fun afternoon of music. From traditional marches to modern arrangements, there will be a variety for everyone.”

The concert is free of charge and will take place from 2pm to 4pm, when folk are invited to come along with rugs, chairs and picnics.

The second event in the summer programme is Alton’s annual Last Night of the Proms open-air concert on Saturday, July 8. The gates will open at 6pm for a 7.30pm start and prom-goers are invited to bring rugs, chairs, and picnics.

This event is organised in partnership with Alton Concert Orchestra.

Throughout the school holidays the Public Gardens will provide the venue for a series of free Friday afternoon activities for children.

Sandtastic Craft will be held on July 28, Magic Wanda will appear on August 4, Professor Potty will perform on August 11, Alton Zumba Kids will take centre stage on August 18, and Scotty’s Circus Workshop will bring the curtain down on August 25.

All performances will take place from 2pm-3pm.
