THE 22nd Farnham Lions Golf Day held at Hindhead Golf Club was once again a ‘huge success’, having raised more than £9,000 for this year’s beneficiary, Stepping Stones School, Hindhead.

More than 80 competitors enjoyed the fundrising event which, in addition to the golf, prizes, and auctions, offered the opportunity from Barons BMW Hindhead to win the use of a BMW 4 series for a weekend and to win outright a BMW Mini convertible via a hole in one competition. Sadly, despite the best efforts of the players the Mini wasn’t won.

In a separate putting competition, however, with three attempts each to hole a long putt, Matt Hepburn won the prize by holing his first and second shots, a feat never previously achieved in the history of the event.

To date, Farnham Lions Golf Day has raised £133,647 to support work undertaken by a number of charities.

This year’s beneficiary educates 66 students requiring special learning and development support. Funds will go towards the purchase of a car that will enable children over 16 to be taken to and from work placements.

Headteacher Melissa Grigsby said: “Thank you so very much Farnham Lions and Hindhead Golf Club.

“The school helps young people from the local area succeed in employment post education and the car will help them transfer their skills to the world of work.”
