WITH only a few weeks to go until the return of the Farnham Pilgrim Marathon, anyone interested in taking part is encouraged to enter before it’s too late.
This popular marathon, organised by Farnham Weyside Rotary Club, has gone from strength to strength since its launch in 2010 and has been rated as one of the top 10 marathons in the country.
Runners have been full of praise for the event, with such comments as “fantastic run, superb organisation, and super route” or “one of the best off-road marathons I’ve ever done”.
The number of runners taking part has grown as well over the years, and more than 800 runners regularly take part. This year’s marathon takes place on Sunday, September 9, with the cut off for entries ending on September 7.
The marathon and half-marathon are the main attractions, but families can also enjoy a two and a half mile walk across Puttenham Common to the top of Crooksbury Hill with a free wristband for all finishers. This year, for the first time, it is possible to enter the half-marathon as a walker, which will widen the event’s appeal even further.
The start and finish are at The Sands recreation ground. The marathon starts at 9.30am, and the half marathon starts at 10.30am.
For more information about the marathon, and to enter, see the website www.farnhampilgrim.org.uk.
Anyone interested in volunteering as a marshal at this year’s event is encouraged to email [email protected] .
• Christian charity Farnham ASSIST, which supports otherwise isolated older residents across Farnham, have allocated spaces for both the full and half Pilgrim Marathon.
A spokesman for the charity said: “If you would like to run for a great charitable cause please do contact us on 01252 717710 or email [email protected] .”
